Casey Anthony case update: Judge throws out inmate motion to replace Jose Baez (videos)
Michigan inmate Curtis Jackson filed a motion requesting that Casey Anthony’s lead attorney, Jose Baez, be removed from her case citing that Jose Baez wasn’t representing Anthony to the best of his abilities. Not only has inmate Jackson’s motion been tossed, but Chief Judge Belvin Perry has barred the inmate from filing additional motions. According to Judge Perry’s motions, only Casey Anthony’s attorneys and the prosecution are entitled to file motions, leaving Jackson’s tales of alleged contacts with Casey Anthony to remain a mystery.
In other Casey Anthony news, it was learned on April 6, 2011 that Florida Governor Rick Scott has approved a funding agreement that will ensure the start of Casey Anthony’s trial on May 9, 2011. As the Casey Anthony case is funded by the state of Florida, a budget shortfall could have delayed the trial. Jury selection is set to begin on May 9, 2011 and the trial will take place in Orlando, Florida. Whereas it was previously considered that the trial may be moved out of Orlando, Judge Perry determined in previous motions that the jury would be bused in to Orlando then sequestered.
It is unclear how long the Casey Anthony trial will last and if the accused Florida mother is found guilty of murder she could face the death penalty. Should Casey be found guilty of first degree murder for the death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Anthony, Casey would face the jury for the second portion of her trial- the penalty phase.
